What technology does Cloud Desktop use?

Cloud Desktop is a hosted Windows desktop delivered using Citrix XenApp technology. Our Cloud Desktop is built on Windows Server RDS delivery model and Windows Server platform. More than RDS, Cloud Nation integrates Cloud Desktop with back up, virus protection, support, storage, and many other valuable services that create a hosted desktop experience second to none.

How do we install applications in Cloud Desktop?

Applications are installed on a cloud server and delivered to users via desktop sessions. This simple process is a virtualization procedure that is completely under your control. Our Cloud Desktop can deliver any Windows application including web, Windows 7, 8 and 10.

Can I customize the Cloud Desktop environment?

Yes, you can customize your clients Cloud Desktop to have your own wallpaper, configure the icons, and themes to make it “your desktop” – this way productivity and acceptability are higher during a deployment. There are excellent profile migration tools that capture all the user experience from the local PC and moves it to the cloud.

Do I need to buy any special equipment?

No, you can use any PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, Android, or Linux machine to connect to your hosted desktop using the Citrix Receiver. One of the initial cost-savings is the ability to continue to use your existing devices. As the processing power, RAM, and storage are provided by our servers, you are even able to use older devices that would be unable to run a new OS themselves.

How much internet access do I need?

A reliable internet connection is essential. You will need a minimum of 75 kbps download speed per user of desktop. Also, you will need a maximum of 70 ms ping test from your location to the Cloud Nation Certified Data Center.

Why do I need Citrix Receiver?

The Cloud Nation Desktop is a hosted Windows cloud desktop that is delivered through Citrix XenApp technology. Citrix XenApp is the leading virtualization platform and outperforms all other competitors.

Why can't we use RDS?

Our Cloud Desktop uses the RDS and Terminal Services functions of Windows servers. Citrix XenApp is a technology layer on top of RDS that compresses RDS traffic and delivers a much better user experience.

What if my internet connection goes down?

Cloud Nation will work with you to help configure equipment that will ensure a backup solution is in place so that, should an internet connection go down, you will still be able to access your desktop via the backup internet connection. In addition, desktop access is from any HTTPS connection. If internet were to be lost at a place of business, you are able to move to any location that has an HTTPS connection with no changes to the system.

Is Cloud Desktop secure?

Absolutely. All transmissions over the internet to and from your desktop are encrypted and use Citrix XenApp foundation. Citrix is used by 100% of today’s Fortune 1000 companies. Cloud Desktops are delivered from fully secure AWS Data Centers and manned 24/7 by security personnel. All the data is stored and processed on servers within the AWS infrastructure, meaning the only things transmitted via the internet are the screen changes on the desktop, key presses and mouse movements.

Are my files and data backed up?

Yes. We provide daily incremental, weekly and monthly full back-ups. Archives and off-site retention are available through partner services. Cloud Nation provides Windows Server VSS services available to users for clean, effective restoration of user files and data.

Is Cloud Desktop a dedicated Windows machine?

No. Cloud Desktop is a Windows desktop delivered using terminal services on a Windows server using Citrix XenApp. This means that you are not able to install applications without involvement from Cloud Nation technology staff.

What applications can I use on my Cloud Desktop?

The Cloud Nation Desktop supports all applications that run in Windows terminal services mode. As the requirements of each application are different, not every application is suitable for use on our Cloud Desktop. However, the vast majority of Windows applications run with no issues. If you are unsure whether an application is suitable for desktop, contact Cloud Nation support and we will assist.

Can we use high graphic processing applications on Cloud Desktop?

Certain applications may not perform well on desktops, such as AutoCAD, video editing software or other similarly graphically-intensive applications. If you are unsure as to whether a certain application will run, feel free to contact us and check if it does or not. Software that causes damage to other systems such as malicious DoS attacks and streaming applications are not permitted.

How do I manage customer logins for Cloud Desktop?

The Cloud Nation Control Panel gives our partners the ability to manage customer permissions and data. Our multi-tenant management system allows you, the reseller, to have unlimited customers, users, applications, storage, and cloud services from one portal screen.

Do I need Active Directory or Terminal Services for my customers?

No. The Cloud Nation Control Portal is a multi-tenant AD structure that provides a simple, easy to use system to have unlimited customer installations. Cloud Nation provides the Windows TS and Citrix licensing server infrastructure to easily plug in your customer's specific applications and deliver securely them to any device, anywhere.

How do I add more Cloud Desktops to my network?

Using the Cloud Nation Control Portal, you will create and provision new users, assign permissions, resources, and set passwords. You can also control access to local storage, printers, and USB devices from a single panel.
